The in-house editorial group recruits and works with external subject matter experts to develop the organization's for-pay products. Similar to the author-publisher relationship, subject matter experts are contracted on a project-by-project basis.
Recruitment of experts occurs on two fronts:
- The in-house editorial group uses traditional networking, trade events, direct outreach, directories and agents to find subject matter experts.
- The community beat managers inform the in-house editorial group about experts they've encountered via community interaction.
